The Orlando Art Museum was founded in 1924, and while encouraging community support for the arts, it holds true to its mission of enriching the cultural life of Florida. The Orlando Art Museum offers 10-12 in-house exhibits year round, and maintains 13 exhibitions off-site. There are a number of award-winning tours you can take throughout the day, and educational programs focus not only on typical visitors, but on the Florida community as a whole. Through various outreach programs, the Orlando Museum of Art strives to educate not only its residents statewide, but national and foreign visitors as well. With their teacher in-service training programs, educators get a chance to develop their knowledge of art for the classroom, and various lectures offered to the public focus on art appreciation.

Among the Orlando Museum of Arts galleries, the visitor will find a number of temporary exhibits, and three permanent collections that offer a comprehensive array of works. The American Art Collection is comprised of paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures from the 1700's to the present. Expect to find works by such notables as Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keeffe here. The Art of the Ancient Americas Collection showcases articles from over 30 different cultural groups from North, South and Central America. These objects date from 2000 B.C. to A.D. 1521. Also among the fixed collections is the African Art Collection. Ceremonial and practical artifacts from several different regions of Africa make up the bulk of this collection, as well as objects of personal adornment. You can enjoy these permanent Orlando Museum exhibits, as well as the rotating temporary exhibits that feature some of the most notable national traveling exhibits.

Among the various events offered at The Orlando Museum of Art, first Thursdays offer free admission to this great Orlando Museum from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. and a new theme is presented through works by local artists. Live music, cash bars and café offerings from area restaurants are on the menu, and it presents a good opportunity to mingle with fellow art appreciators.

The Orlando Art Museum can be found at 2416 North Mills Avenue, and admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (65+), college students with i.d., as well as groups of more than 10. Students ages 6-18 pay only $5, and children 5 and younger get in free. The Orlando Museum of Art is closed on Mondays, and open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday hours are from Noon to 4 p.m.
